Business Case-Studies, Models and Design Principles

In this talk I will cover Service ValueNetworks that have emerged in various Industries (e.g. Manufacturing, Pharma, HealthCare and others) in various forms and shapes over the last decade. The Service ecosystems supporting such value networks are complex and ad-hoc and have varying risk criteria, interconnectivity and risk measurements when compared to more traditional supply-chains and value-chains. Value networks as a research area represent a novel approach to modeling complex enterprise relationships from the perspective of value creation and sharing.

This talk addresses three major challenges of value network-driven enterprise analysis:

(1) unifying the business knowledge of multiple enterprises and their diverse and conflicting objectives in the value network,

(2) sensing the value network and processes through systems design, and

3) analyzing the value offered by multiple service entities in the network based on common goals and metrics.

Biography:
Dr. J. Sairamesh (Ramesh) is currently a Managing Partner at 360Fresh Inc. Previously he was a Manager and Program Leader for Business Solutions and Manufacturing Quality Research at IBM Watson Research, New York. He was one of the functional architects for IBM’s e-business and e-Marketplace products. At IBM, from 2001 to 2007, he helped drive the vision and strategy for business solutions on value-chain management, warranty and enterprise quality in manufacturing (automotive) for IBM. He led a team on early warning solutions, services middleware and end-to-end quality technologies. He has helped incubate and drive three commercial business solutions for IBM’s customers in the areas of Dealer-CRM, Early Warning for Warranty and Supply-Chain Quality. He has numerous US Patents and over 50 research publications. He has won three outstanding innovation awards and a research division award for his eCommerce and Business Solutions work at IBM. He received his M.S., M. Phil.(1992), and Ph.D (1996) from EE and CS at Columbia University.

Abstract:
Technological advances are helping to create new solutions for some of the gravest problems facing developing countries. Whether the objective is to improve living conditions, eradicate disease or fight poverty, technologies have shown gratifying results. The individual s involved are incredibly talented and dedicated engineers, scientists, doctors or educators. But, rarely, are they equally prepared to be managers of the organizations whose creation their innovations so frequently spark. All too often, the challenges of managing the organizations themselves diminish the effectiveness of the underlying solution. Our program has helped many such managers by developing business plans, marketing strategies or related projects that help to guide the organization towards its goals in a more efficient and cost effective manner. This presentation will describe a number of these projects, the challenges they faced and suggested solutions.

Biography:
Sebastian Teunissen is Adjunct professor at the Haas School of Business and Executive Director of the Clausen Center for International Business and Policy. He manages the International Business Development (IBD) Program and the Seminars in International Business Program at Haas. IBD sends teams of consultants to work on projects, for clients, throughout the world. Teams have worked in more than 67 countries to date.

Claudia Jonczyk : networking styles

Dr Claudia Jonczyk ESCP Europe talks about her research into networking styles and the impact they can have on business. Claudia Jonczyk is Associate Professor of Organization Studies at ESCP Europe London campus and a visiting researcher at INSEAD. She teaches Organization and Management as well as Managing Change and Cross-Cultural Management.
Professor Jonczyk holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Behaviour from the University of Geneva and a Master of Science from University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. In the context of her doctorate on narrative approaches to organizational learning she was awarded the Swiss National Science Foundation Scholarship to spend 18 months as a visiting research fellow at MITs Sloan School in Cambridge, where she worked on the topics of knowledge management and organizational learning in high-risk industries. Professor Jonczyk has also taught at the University of Geneva, Switzerland and HEC Paris. She is author and co-author of several articles, research papers and cases on knowledge management, organizational learning and the use of case studies as pedagogical devices.
Of German origin, Claudia Jonczyk has worked as a strategy consultant for LEK Consulting in Germany and the UK and for Pricewaterhouse Coopers and the Geneva Knowledge Group in Switzerland. In her current research Claudia and two colleagues from INSEAD focus on questions of personal network development and career success in high performance service organizations in the audit, law and consulting sector.
